Today we travelled to The Palace Stables in Armagh, to become evacuees for the day. We made identify labels and cards, met an American GI soldier who taught us to salute and march. We met Paul who told us a bit more about Anderson Shelters and how the government at the time encouraged citizens to ‘Dig for Victory’ to help supplement food rationing. We met evacuation officer, Mr Heaney who was also an Air Raid Warden. He brought us to an underground shelter and we imagined what it would have been like to live during these scary times. We were thankful to be able to get back on the bus to go home to Milltown at the end of the day. We had a super time. Ms Gunn, Mrs Willis and Mrs Wilson were very proud of the wonderful behaviour we displayed when we were there. Well done boys and girls, you were a joy to be with today.
