Task: observe changes to jelly teddy sweets when placed in different liquids.

We placed jelly teddy sweets into water, vinegar and salt water overnight and observed changes. The children made predictions such as ‘grow bigger’ ‘change the colour of the water’ ‘dissolve’ ‘melt’ ‘get fizzy’ ‘become slimy’. 

The next day each group discussed the changes to their teddies. We found that the teddies in the water grew bigger in size. “They are giant teddies”. The teddies in the salt water reduced in size and some of the teddies had bubbles on the outside. The teddies in the vinegar also grew in size but started to break up in the liquid.
