We are reading the story of The Gingerbread Man. In the story the gingerbread man could not cross the river so a fox offered to help him. We thought about what would happen to the gingerbread man if he swam across the river instead. We thought he might crumble, melt, dissolve or float. To determine if we were correct we conducted an experiment. We placed gingerbread men in water and observed the changes. They floated on the water then after a few minutes, began to sink to the bottom. We now know this is because they absorbed water. They also turned white and the water changed colour to a yellow and brown shade. When we poked the gingerbread men, they crumbled into pieces!
