Extreme Earth

15th Sep 2021

Our World Around Us topic this term is “Extreme Earth.”

We normally begin a new topic by using a KWL grid. This helps us think about what we already know about a topic and what we would like to find out.  When we finish the topic we will review our learning.

Mrs Wilson was amazed at how much we knew about our Extreme Earth and how interested we were to know more!

Today we looked at what the Earth is like under our feet.

We took an imaginary trip on the Underground Explorer down through a sink hole to see the layers of the Earth. We learned the names of the layers and what they were made of. The crust, the mantle, the outer core and the inner core were the main layers we discussed.

Then we used plasticine to make a layered model of the Earth. We really enjoyed this activity.

We sliced through the middle of some of our models to show what the inside layers of the Earth might look like.

In our next lesson we will be learning about volcanoes.
